If i tell u that HARD TECHNO can be sweet, just as hard and powerfull, would u believe me???...well, let CANDY COX tell u that!!! For those who doesn't know her yet, Candy Cox is a gourgeous/talented Brazilian Hard Techno Djane, borned in Curitiba, a city in the south of Brasil. Since 2005, her incredible skills on the decks and her beautifull smile has been notice by the world of Techno music.

Candy 'felt in love' with music when she was just a little girl, her influences comes from all kinds of music, since 'Classical Music' to extreme sounds, like 'Gabba'. This endlles love and passion just grew along the years, and nowadays, music is her life. When Candy listenned Techno (in 1999) for the first time, it was like ''LOVE AT FIRST BEAT'', and from that time on, she wanted to become a Djane!

Clubbersguide: When did you start DJing and where was your first gig?

Candy: I started djing on 2005, and my first gig was at Stereo Pub, a small underground club back home, in Curitiba, Brasil. My first gig there, was really, really special for me, because beside that was my first gig, my Dad was in the crowd, dancing and enjoying my set! It was a very special night for me! And this club was really a special place, on that time, i used to be there always, to party with my friends, it was like a big "party people family"!

Clubbersguide: How do you see the role of DJ these days as opposed to when you first started out?

Candy: In my opinion, the main role of a Dj, is to make the crowd dance and make them feel the music the same way the Dj does. The Dj must to spread the joy and happiness that comes from the music. And this is the best thing when it does happens, cause you can see it on the dance floor, it's amazing when 1 person from the crowd, get it, and feel what you were trying to transmit on your set. And i also think that the Dj can always pass a message to the people, throughout the music, through the performances, and by the figure itself. On my head, this role hasn't changed much since i started out.

Clubbersguide: What do you think is more important for a DJ - the mixing technique or the track selection?

Candy: I think both of this are very very important. One Dj must work hard on the technique, always making improvements on the mixing skills, learning new stuff, taking risks on trying something new on live performances, and practice everyday or anytime possible. By practicing, i say that a Dj can also practice the ears only, just by listening a lot of music whenever you can, and of course, practicing the skills on the turntables and the mixer, by playing anytime you pass near by the decks. But beside of that, a Dj must also have a good taste on music, to pick the right tracks, on the right moments. I know that taste, is a very personal thing, but this is what makes this profession so beautiful, and one of the reasons why i love this profession so much, is because you are free to express yourself within the music selection you make, also with the tracks you produce, and throughout your whole set, you are able to express what you feel, what you think, and the crowd always respond on someway.

Clubbersguide: With all the new styles and new kind of sounds coming out, do you think that the original sound of techno will become obsolete?

Candy: NEVER!
Techno is here, is there, and it will always be!
I believe that the other techno styles that comes and goes, are just variations of Techno, that makes Techno such a complete genre.
Meaning that, Techno pleases everyone!!
If you like it hard, you listen to Hard Techno, if you like it groovy, you listen to it, if you like it soft, jumpy, funky, minimal, you listen what you like, and on, and on, and on...
There is no limits, or discrimination on Techno.
What we do need, is more respect to all the styles, genres, and never forget that all of this, is Music in the end.
And we need also, to open our minds and ears, to other styles, genres, new artists, new stuff, other kinds of music for now and then, it's always good for the heart!

Clubbersguide: What's your preference - playing at festivals or clubs?

Candy: Each one has its own special particularities.
Clubs are so nice, because i can experience playing for a smaller crowd, see and watch everybody's face while i am playing, watch they're dancing, and i can feel each one's energy, and also i am able to be a little bit closer to the party people.
Festivals are also so great! There is always a big big crowd, which is a different experience from the Clubs. On Festivals, sometimes i can't see each one's face, but i can feel all the crowd with the same energy as one, dancing, having fun, smiling, it is a bigger energy than it is at the clubs, and this big energy is what makes the Festivals always so amazing. I love to play on both!

Clubbersguide: What's been the best party you've DJed at? Whats the strangest thing that has happened to you at a gig? What was your best, and your worst party experience?

Candy: Well, it is hard to say which one was the best, I'm really happy cause i have so much cool memories of all the parties i played at. But one really cool experience that i remember good, was at my first open air festival in Spain, i played just on time to the sun shows up, the crowd was really happy and the sun came out beautifully, making the best view ever for me, a big help from the nature, combining with great music and a big happy crowd!! Was amazing!!

The strangest thing that ever happened to me at a gig, was in a festival that started to rain a lot, and we were inside the tend, but there was a lot of wind and so much rain, we had to take our stuff and go running to inside the cars to protect ourselves, cause the wind was almost making the tend fall over our heads, the festival ends because of that, and this was really sad, because the festival had been perfect all day long, but again, the power of nature, is such a beautiful thing, but sometimes does things that we cannot predict or go against...

And the worst party experience, it's a personal situation, but for me, it's no problem to tell... it was when i had to go do my work, 2 days after i lost my Father... it was really difficult for me to smile, play, look to the people, or feel the music...
but the crowd was there, having fun, dancing and smiling... so i did my job!
And bad experiences happens sometimes, when i have to play sick, with fever, feeling bad of my health... these days are hard to go to work hehehe, but i do my best to never skip work because of sickness or because of anything.

Clubbersguide: Do you think drugs are still a very important part of dance culture?

Candy: No. I don't think drugs are important part of anything. Unfortunately, is there, but not important for me or for the dance culture, on my point of view.
For me, music and fun, are the only reasons to go to a party. When you love the music and when you feel it with your heart and soul, that is specifically the reason why, you should go to a party, by loving the music, only. Music is my drug! (T-shirt's cliche, but so true!)

Clubbersguide: Since your name is synonymous with techno, what is there that keeps you playing it, and how do you compare it to other styles?

Candy: I keep playing it, because i love it!
I love how it sounds, i love the way Techno makes me feel, i love to dance Techno and HardTechno, and i love to show and give this feelings to the crowd, i just can't get enough of it!
On my opinion, it's impossible to compare it with other styles, cause i believe that Techno and Hard Techno are such unique sounds.
I never compare styles, artists, or anything, because each one, is each one!

Clubbersguide: Techno has obviously been your passion for many years but all genres change as time goes on. How has your sound developed and how would you describe it now?

Candy: I started my career playing HardTechno / Techno, and after 6 years, i'm still playing it!
I describe it as the same way i always did, i think this styles had "suffered" some improvements, changes, mutations, but had never lost its spirit.

Clubbersguide: Being a producer as well as a DJ, how much does one influence another, are your productions more influenced by your sets and the tracks you play or is it vice versa?

Candy: Playing, directly influences on production, and vice versa, as you said. Everything is an influence on music. I try to produce tracks i would like to listen if i were on the dance floor. And the same thing when i choose and pick the tracks to play on my sets. I play sets that i would like to listen at a party/festival, or at home, on my ipod and so...

Clubbersguide: When you're making music, what kind of equipment are you using?

Candy: I use my computer, Ableton Live, and on the last track i made with Fernanda, we also used microphones and a midi keyboard. I'm working on things to improve my production, so, soon i will have more stuff to show up... stay tuned!!

Clubbersguide: What do you find more challenging - recording your own tracks, or remixing tracks from other producers?

Candy: When you are making your own tracks, you have more freedom to do whatever you want to do, go crazy on the idea, on the loops and everything, you can use any beats and sounds you choose to make it sounds as you'd like to...
And making a remix from other producers, i believe is more challenging, because you put your idea on a track that already has an idea. So you must make the remix as you would like to sound, but cannot get lost on another theme, so the track previously idealized, do not lose it's essence, but still containing your touch.

Clubbersguide: Where do you find your inspiration?

Candy: Everything inspires me.
Music, nature, sometimes having a nice talk with someone gets me inspired to do something about my work, or even on personal life, the beach inspires me, parties also, learn about new things inspires me a lot, my beloved family, my friends, traveling, meeting new places, and i believe i get inspired even when i'm sleeping, on my dreams...

Candy: I am crazy about cleaning and organizing things!
Each crazy with your own craziness.

Clubbersguide: Where do you see yourself in 30 years from now?

Candy: So many things to say on this one.... but I really hope i can see myself in 30 years from now, in a better world for everybody, cause the way the world is now, it cannot continue!!!
We must demand some serious changes around this planet, on the politics, on the society, change our minds and change the way things are done...
We need to get up, open our eyes and demand this changes!!! Because if nothing different happens, i don't think i will be able to see nobody, at anywhere in 30 years from now.
We need more consciousness about everything!! We need that the young people wake up and be more aware of the problems of the world, and stop watching so much tv... the young people of the world must to make big changes for the future (not only the young, but everybody)!!
Because i'm tired to see children dying of hunger on some countries, while on the TV, lots of celebrities that has big influence and power on their hands, are just showing up wearing fur taken from an innocent animal, spending money on stupid things, and stupid tv shows... teaching people to waste things and waste money, and also teaching people how to be shallow and week minded, these celebrities's tv shows, instead of being produced to alienate the people, could've been made to awake some conscious on people's mind, make people think, or even could use the money spent on them, to help children and other people who doesn't have a place to live, nothing to wear, and nothing to eat...
Oh, and i also, see myself a little bit older, white hair, but still elegant, hehehe
